Pitch Launches Mobile Social Networking

cell phoneFirst up, some disclosure: This is the project I’ve been working full-time on for the past 3 months, and is what I alluded to in my last post.

Pitch has launched a full mobile social networking application, specifically designed for use via WAP rather than via web. The app, which is currently only available in the UK, supports a wide range of social networking services, including full persistent WAP-based IM chat services between individual friends and groups of friends, person to person WAP-based email, photo upload and photo albums (with commenting enabled of course), free content downloads, some personalisation options (you can change your profile avatar, choosing from one of the defaults, or any image you’ve uploaded) and a unique nickname that can be used instead of giving out a mobile number.

In the UK, texting a user’s nickname (their pitch tag) to 87000 will return a WAP Push link direct to that user’s Pitch profile. Texting your own tag will return you a link to your own profile, and texting Pitch will return a link to the Pitch homepage.

Also included is a community page, allowing users to search the community for other users, as well as a shared shoutwall, allowing anyone to send a message to the whole community.

There’s much more to it as well, with more functions and services to come in the following months. So if you’re in the UK, check it out, or drop me a line if you have any questions.
