Wattpad Adds Gutenberg
This popped into my inbox this morning: Wattpad, the company making books available for reading via WAP, has done a deal with Project Gutenberg which will see the vast, public domain content of the Gutenberg archives made available to Wattpad users. This deal adds more than 17,000 titles to the Wattpad platform.
Since Wattpad’s launch our users have uploaded thousands of stories.” said Ivan Yuen, Founder of Wattpad. “Now with the inclusion of Project Gutenberg’s eBooks, we have one of the world’s largest selections of stories for our users.”
“The mission of Project Gutenberg is simple: To encourage the creation and distribution of eBooks.” said Michael Hart, Founder of Project Gutenberg, when commenting on the Project Gutenberg philosophy. “This mission is, as much as possible, to encourage all those who are interested in making eBooks and helping to give them away.” The combination of Wattpad’s free service and Project Gutenberg’s eBooks makes the largest digitized text library instantly available to the most pervasive consumer electronic device ever.
